The History of Satellite Remote Sensing at our Center

Fiscal year 2005

  • Started collaborative research with JAXA
  • Started academic exchange with Center for Remote Sensing and Ocean Sciences (CReSOS) at Udayana University (Indonesia)

Fiscal year 2007

  • Established the Satellite Remote Sensing Working Group at Yamaguchi University Graduate School of Science and Engineering 'Research Center for Environmental Safety

Fiscal year 2009-2011

  • Received the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Aerospace human resource development project research grant: "Satellite remote sensing human resource development through international collaboration"
  • Began holding online collaborative simultaneous classes for 10 subjects related to satellite remote sensing with Udayana university
  • Started double degree program (DDP) with Udayana University

Fiscal year 2013-2015

  • Received the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Aerospace human resource development project research grant: "Satellite remote sensing human resource development through international collaboration between the graduate schools"
  • Increased number of online collaborative classes from 10 to 12 subjects
  • Expanded collaborative countries to include Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and East Timor

Fiscal year 2015-2017

  • Received the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) / Core-to-Core Project (B: Asia-Africa Science Platforms) research grant: "Establishment of the Southeast Asia Research and Education Center for Disaster Reduction and Environment Using Satellite Remote Sensing"
  • Held three International Seminars, twice in fiscal year 2015 and once in fiscal year 2016
  • Officially established CRAS as a Yamaguchi University research center (1 Feb. 2016)

Fiscal year 2015-2018

  • Received Yamaguchi University, Shin-Yobimizu "Core-to-Core" project

1st April 2016

  • Remote Sensing Section in Research Center for Environmental Safety have been developed to the Center for Research and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing (CRASS) in Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation.

1st February 2017

  • Yamaguchi University, Center for Research and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing has been officially established.

(2) International Contributions as a Data Analysis Node (DAN) of Sentinel-Asia

We were named the first university of DAN of Sentinel-Asia in Japan. We first analyzed the 2013 heavy rain disaster in the northern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, and have since been analyzing several disasters.
